About Kirkland
Jamaican based fine artist, Kirkland Clarke, who hails from the wonderful parish of Westmoreland uses his talents to highlight the simple pleasures of life. He is a past student of the following institutions Broughton Primary School, St Elizabeth Technical High School, Mico Teachers College, Penn Foster College and the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts.
Through his artistic practice he seeks to capture the real fiber or essence of the pulchritude of his surroundings and portrays them on canvas or paper in expressions that are colorful, creative and majestically. His art works has a universal appeal and attitude which may provoke or evoke strong emotional responses. Furthermore, his works do not only reflects his creative and artistic abilities but also his intellectual dimensions…His work is not transfix in any one aesthetic theory but rather intertwine in various artistic genres and styles. This is as a result or his eclectic approach towards the arts.
This fine artist not only displays his talents but also aids in developing those of the next generation as he currently teaches Design Arts, Visual Arts and Art and Design at the Rusea’s High School.
Mr. Clarke truly lives his philosophy “To whom much is given much is expected”. Jamaican as well as other nationalities has been enjoying the pleasure of viewing some of Kirkland’s work at various exhibitions group and solo shows such as:
